(March 30, 2024) Milton, FL – Bo Slay from Milton, Fla., took the checkered flag in Saturday’s eighth annual Bash at the Beach at Southern Raceway, leading all 40 laps and securing a sweet $5,000 payday. It was his second career Coltman Farms Racing Southern All Star Series feature victory, and what makes it even sweeter is that it happened at his home track. Slay’s last win was back on Nov. 26, 2022, and now he’s back in the winner’s circle, proving his prowess on the track.
In his emotional victory speech, Slay couldn’t contain his excitement, saying, “Man, this is awesome. I don’t know if there’s been a better win.” He praised his team for their unwavering support, especially during tough times when he felt he let them down. This win, he emphasized, shuts up the naysayers who doubted his capabilities. “We’ve heard it in the back of our ears, ‘Oh, he can’t do it, he can’t do it.’ Well, get you some of this,” he added.
Colton Leyendecker came in second, trailing Slay for the entire race, just 0.586 of a second behind. Billy Franklin snagged third place after a solid performance on a lap-16 restart. Hometown hero Joseph Joiner, Friday’s $3,000 opener winner, settled for fourth, while series points leader David McCoy started and finished fifth.
The race had only one caution on lap 15 when Steven Jernigan slowed down. Despite the interruption, the feature lasted just 13 minutes, with 11 drivers running at the finish line.
Dalton Cook of Columbus, Ga., made an impressive move, starting 13th and finishing seventh. And let’s not forget about the fast qualifier, Bo Slay, who also clinched fast time with a time of 14.759 seconds.
Slay’s victory was made possible with support from Pioneer Motorsports, powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine, and sponsored by Slay’s Mobile Home Service, Three Trade Consultants, Randy Polk Homes, Jason McCullers Properties, Bilstein Shocks, and SNS Wraps.
As for the points chase, David McCoy leads the pack with 374 points, followed closely by Dalton Cook with 356 points and Billy Franklin with 352 points.
The stage is set for the next series race at Moulton Speedway on April 12, offering another shot at a $5,000 prize.
