(April 20, 2024) Burnside, KY – Camaron Marlar of Winfield, Tennessee, showcased an impressive performance, securing a flag-to-flag victory in the thrilling 53-lap Johnny Wheeler Memorial race held at Lake Cumberland Speedway last Saturday. Camaron’s stellar display earned him a significant $10,053 prize in his Schaffer’s Spring Nationals triumph.
Reflecting on his night, Marlar expressed his elation, stating, “It’s the biggest win of my career. And I’m just happy to get it for Johnny Wheeler. I remember the first $10,000-to-win race I ever saw, he won it and he was No. 57, so that’s pretty cool to get my first one. We might be from Tennessee, but we’re just 30 minutes south of here, so this is home.”
Marlar’s dominance was evident throughout the race as he led from start to finish, facing minimal challenges en route to claiming the richest payday of his career. Although it marked his first Super Late Model victory since a 26-car field at Smoky Mountain Speedway in April 2022, Marlar has started the 2024 season with strong showings, securing a second-place finish at Moulton on April 12 and a third-place finish at Florence on March 30.
Josh Rice secured the runner-up position after a spirited effort, trailing Marlar by a mere 0.831 of a second at the checkered flag. Pearson Lee Williams showcased an impressive performance, advancing 11 positions to secure a spot on the podium.
The race witnessed eight caution flags, with incidents including Dustin Linville’s spin from eighth place, resulting in a collision involving Donald McIntosh, Cody Mahoney, and Adam Stricker
The next series race is scheduled for May 3 at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, Georgia, offering a prize of $7,553. With Camaron Marlar’s stellar victory setting the stage for an exhilarating season ahead, fans can expect more thrilling action on the dirt tracks.
