[June 27 2024, Eldon MO] Corey Day, the 18-year-old sensation from Clovis, California, continues to redefine excellence in Sprint Car racing with each passing event. His latest triumph at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri, on Wednesday night marked not only a stunning victory but also a record-breaking performance in the Midweek Money Series.
A $20,000 top prize on a wednesday night will bring out anyone and everyone and that’s exactly what Lake Ozark Speedway & High Limit Racing did. Rain in the last few days leading up to the event provided a challenging task to Kenny Brown and his staff but boy did it produce a dandy!
To kick the night off, Carson Macedo and his Jason Johnson Racing #41 crew based right there in Eldon came out of the gate swinging going fastest in hot laps. The track got really unpredictable during qualifying but Flyin’ Ryan Timms figured out how to manage it setting quick time on the night.
4 very racey Heat Races built anticipation for the big show later on that evening, Heat Race winners included: Cole Macedo, Spencer Bayston, Cory Eliason, & Brent Marks. Day, driving for Jason Meyers Racing #14BC team, faced adversity early in the night. A broken rear end during Qualifying meant starting dead last in his Heat Race. Undeterred, Day with no hesitation put together an 11th to 4th run in just eight laps to secure a spot in the A-Main.
35 Laps set the stage for a big payday on the lake. 2 california drivers Cole Macedo & Brad Sweet shared the front row, but what they didn’t know was 15th place starting Corey Day (another California driver) was coming for vengeance, passing an impressive 14 cars in the first 14 laps alone. Day had seized the lead on a fantastic restart passing 2 cars in 1 corner and never looked back, multiple attempts were made to slide the 17 year old but nothing was successful ultimately ending with Day crossing the finish line with a commanding 2.577-second lead.
This victory not only added another $20,000 to Day’s season earnings but also marked his fifth trip to High Limit Victory Lane this year. With this win, he now stands just one victory shy of joining the ranks of Rico Abreu, Kyle Larson, and Brad Sweet in the High Limit history books.
Justin Peck of Buch Motorsports claimed a solid second place, while Spencer Bayston and CJB Motorsports secured third, continuing their strong season performances..
Looking ahead, Kubota High Limit Racing gears up for the next challenge at “The Diamond of Dirt Tracks” Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, for the Diamond Classic with $25,000 is up for grabs!
