(April 6, 2024) Colcord, OK – What a turnaround for Sheldon Haudenschild! After facing disappointment on Friday, he bounced back with a remarkable victory at the Jason Johnson Classic presented by FK Rod Ends. The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars descended upon Arrowhead Speedway in Colcord, OK, with a hefty $20,000 prize up for grabs, and Haudenschild rose to the occasion.
Friday’s heartbreak at US 36 Raceway was quickly forgotten as Haudenschild seized control halfway through the main event and fended off a determined challenge from David Gravel on the final lap. The packed grandstands erupted with cheers as Haudenschild celebrated atop his Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing #17, receiving the prestigious trophy from Jason Johnson’s son, Jaxx.
For Haudenschild, this victory was particularly significant, as it marked his 36th win with The Greatest Show on Dirt, placing him on par with Sprint Car legends Shane Stewart and Carson Macedo for 20th all-time. Arrowhead Speedway became the 23rd different track where he’s claimed victory and his first in the state of Oklahoma. Moreover, the Jason Johnson Classic has yet to see a repeat winner through six editions, making Haudenschild’s triumph even sweeter.
After an intense battle with Giovanni Scelzi for the lead, Haudenschild managed to edge ahead and hold onto the top spot despite relentless pressure from Gravel in the closing stages. The final lap saw Gravel make a daring move, but Haudenschild’s resilience and speed ensured his victory.
Reflecting on his win, Haudenschild expressed his delight at overcoming the challenges of the previous night and praised his team for their unwavering support. Despite Gravel’s formidable performance, Haudenschild was determined to come out on top and relished the opportunity to stand in Victory Lane once again.
Gravel, although disappointed to narrowly miss out on back-to-back victories, remained upbeat, acknowledging the strength of his competition and expressing gratitude for his team’s efforts. With four consecutive top two finishes under his belt, Gravel’s confidence is soaring as he extends his lead in the championship standings.
The podium was completed by Scelzi, who put up a valiant fight despite falling short of victory. As the season progresses, fans can expect more exhilarating races and fierce battles for supremacy on the track.
Next up, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars head to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, MO, for two nights of thrilling action. With the championship battle heating up, every lap counts, and fans won’t want to miss a moment of the excitement.
For those unable to attend the races in person, every lap can be enjoyed live on DIRTVision, ensuring that fans stay connected to the heart-pounding action wherever they are.
