(April 6, 2024) Phenix City, AL – In a thrilling finish at East Alabama Motor Speedway, Kyle Bronson from Brandon, Fla., emerged victorious in Saturday’s $10,053 Jimmy Thomas Memorial race. Bronson, starting sixth, made a daring move in the final lap, executing a last-lap, last-turn slider to snatch the lead from race-long pacesetter Zack Mitchell, ultimately clinching his first career Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals feature victory.
Reflecting on his win, Bronson expressed his gratitude, saying, “I really gotta thank Brandon Overton there, he told me to put some hard tires on and that’s what we did. We didn’t take off very good, but we got going really good there at the end. Yeah, Zack (Mitchell), I slid him pretty clean there a couple laps in a row and I slowed down there in the middle last time, to not let him cross me over and he ass-drilled me. I don’t know whose fault it is, but we won $10,000.”
Dalton Cook made an impressive move from 16th to finish fifth, showcasing his skill on the track.
Bronson’s winning Longhorn Chassis, powered by a Clements Racing Engine, is supported by a range of sponsors including RaceCar Engineering, Lucas Oil, and Borchers Equipment.
The victory marks the fifth different winner in the first five series races, highlighting the competitive nature of the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals. With Bronson’s win, the points chase after East Alabama Motor Speedway sees Donald McIntosh leading with 936 points, closely followed by Pearson Lee Williams with 930 points.
In an exciting race that lasted 34 minutes, with 10 drivers completing 53 laps, Bronson’s victory adds another memorable chapter to his racing career.
The next series race is scheduled for April 19 at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY, offering a $7,553 prize and promising another night of thrilling racing action in the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals series.
