(July 6, 2024) Port Royal, PA – The Greg Hodnett Classic at Port Royal Speedway saw Logan Wagner emerge victorious after a thrilling 30-lap race. The event, race #9 of PA Speedweek, featured Wagner securing his first career win in this prestigious race.
Early Lead and Mid-Race Battles
Logan Wagner started from the pole and took the early lead, with Brent Marks in close pursuit. Marks challenged Wagner side by side through the turns, but Wagner held his ground, leading the first lap. Anthony Macri quickly moved up the field, battling with Danny Dietrich and Dylan Cisney for position.
Wagner managed to build a significant lead, but Marks and Macri continued to apply pressure. Macri eventually overtook Marks, moving into second place and setting his sights on Wagner.
Cautions and Strategic Moves
The race saw several caution flags, which bunched up the field and provided opportunities for lead changes. One such caution involved Michael Walter, who brought out a yellow flag after stopping in turn one. On the restart, Marks attempted a slider but couldn’t make it stick, allowing Macri to maintain his position.
Danny Dietrich, battling with TJ Stutts and Justin Whittall, provided thrilling side-by-side action. Dietrich made several attempts to move up the field but faced stiff competition from Stutts and Whittall.
Late-Race Drama
With just a few laps remaining, Wagner encountered lap traffic, which allowed Marks and Macri to close the gap. Macri got into the wall while trying to navigate around a lap car, giving Dietrich a chance to challenge for third. However, Dietrich’s efforts were thwarted as Macri held onto his position.
In the final laps, Wagner expertly navigated through traffic, tapping the guardrail but maintaining his lead. Marks made a last-ditch effort in turn three, but Wagner held strong, crossing the finish line first and securing the victory.
