Marlar Sweeps the XR Super Series Spring Thaw Weekend at Volunteer Speedway

(April 7, 2024) Bulls Gap, TN – Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., proved his dominance once more as he led all 40 laps to secure victory in Sunday’s rain-postponed $12,000 Spring Thaw opener at Volunteer Speedway. Marlar, who started from the pole position, successfully fended off a late-race challenge from Devin Moran, clinching his second consecutive victory in the XR Super Series and collecting a total of $42,000 over the weekend.

Reflecting on his win, Marlar acknowledged the tough competition from Moran and praised the smooth track conditions that allowed for thrilling racing action. Despite Moran’s relentless pressure, Marlar held his ground and navigated the field masterfully, showcasing his skill and experience behind the wheel.

The race wasn’t without its challenges for Marlar, with a moment of contact with Josh Henry on lap 21 providing a brief scare. However, Marlar maintained his composure and continued to lead the pack, ultimately crossing the finish line with Moran close behind.

Jimmy Owens, starting from the fourth position, secured third place after a strong performance, while Brandon Overton finished fifth after starting seventh. Hudson O’Neal, driving for Kevin Rumley, battled his way to seventh place despite slipping from fifth on lap 28.

The feature race, slowed by four incidents, lasted 25 minutes, with 14 competitors completing the distance and 19 running at the finish. Originally scheduled for Friday, the Spring Thaw opener was postponed due to rain, adding to the anticipation and excitement surrounding the event.

Marlar’s Skyline Motorsports Longhorn Chassis, supported by sponsors such as Bruening Rock Products and VP Racing Fuels, played a crucial role in his victory, highlighting the importance of strong partnerships in motorsports.

In the points chase after Volunteer Sunday, Marlar leads the standings with 200 points, followed closely by Moran with 190 points. Jonathan Davenport, Daulton Wilson, and Hudson O’Neal round out the top five in the standings.

The next series race is scheduled for May 16 at Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, MN, offering a $12,000 prize. Fans can expect more exciting action as drivers compete for victory in the XR Super Series.
