(June 28, 2024) Farmer City, IL – Michael Long reached a remarkable milestone in the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals on Friday night at Farmer City Raceway, securing his 10th Hell Tour victory and his third win of the season. The Fowler, IL native dominated the 25-lap main event, leading from start to finish and holding off the latest Modified Nationals winner, Mike McKinney, to claim the top spot.
A Consistent Performer
“We’ve just been running good,” Long said. “Been time trialing good, Heat Races have been going decent and then we usually always have a pretty good car in the Feature this year and it’s been rolling good.”
Starting from the pole position after the redraw, Long surged to the front on the first lap, quickly establishing a significant gap between himself and the rest of the field. However, as the race progressed, lap traffic became a factor with five laps to go, allowing McKinney to close in. Despite the pressure, Long skillfully navigated through the slower cars, maintaining his lead and crossing the finish line first.
Strategic Moves in Lap Traffic
“You just want to pick your move there right off the bat and hopefully get by the first couple,” Long said about dealing with lap traffic. “I just try to see where they’re running at and know what to do when you get there.”
Looking Ahead
The Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds will continue their Week 3 action with a race at Highland Speedway on Saturday, June 29, alongside the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Late Models. Tickets will be available at the gate, and fans can also stream every lap live on DIRTVision.
