Michael Long Claims Victory at Tri-City Speedway for Second Consecutive Year

(June 14, 2024) Granite City, IL – Michael Long continued his winning streak at the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals, capturing the Feature win at Tri-City Speedway for the second year in a row on Friday night.

Commanding Performance

Hailing from Fowler, IL, Long demonstrated his prowess on the 3/8-mile oval, leading all 25 laps of the main event. Starting from pole position after winning his Heat, Long never relinquished his lead, securing his eighth career victory in the Hell Tour, with three of those wins at Tri-City Speedway.

“I just have a lot of laps here,” Long said. “I’ve raced here quite a bit over the years, and it suits my driving style. I’ve always had success here.”

Strategy and Skill

Long credited his pole position start as a significant factor in his win. He managed to hold off all challengers and set a consistent pace throughout the race.

“It was helpful,” Long said. “With the way the track was, you just kind of had to set a cruising pace and just hang in there. It would’ve been hard to pass back in the field. I think it helped out a lot starting out front.”

Climbing the Rankings

Entering the race, Long was sixth in the DIRTcar UMP Modified national points standings. This win and his continued participation in the Hell Tour will help him climb higher in the rankings.

“I’m actually down on nights right now,” Long explained. “I need Summer Nationals to help me get a few more nights in to catch up with the other guys, and I think we’ll stack up pretty close.”

What’s Next?

The Summit Modifieds will head to Fairbury Speedway on Saturday, June 15, for another exciting race, alongside the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Late Models. Tickets are available at the gate, and fans can stream the action live on DIRTVision.
