Ryan Timms Secures Xtreme Outlaw Midget Victory at Farmer City Raceway

(April 12, 2024) Farmer City, IL – Ryan Timms took a significant step towards his first national Midget series championship by winning the opening round at Farmer City Raceway. The 17-year-old from Oklahoma City, OK, demonstrated his skill and speed by setting the fastest lap in his qualifying group, winning his heat race from fourth, and leading the final 15 laps of the feature to secure his first victory of the season with both the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota and the POWRi National Midget League.

Timms Dominates the Night

Timms’ victory makes him the fifth different winner in the first five races of the 2024 Xtreme Outlaw Series season, joining Thomas Meseraull, Cannon McIntosh, Karter Sarff, and Kale Drake. He expressed confidence after a strong performance early in the program. “After the heat race, I had a lot of confidence going into the main,” Timms said.

Early Race Action

Kale Drake, Timms’ teammate, took the early lead at the start of the 25-lap main event, with Chase McDermand and Ashton Torgerson close behind. Timms quickly found his rhythm on the top lane and began closing the gap on the leaders. “Once we went into Turns 3 and 4, I was able to just rail the top and saw how much the gap between me and the lead cars closed,” Timms said.

After passing Torgerson for third, Timms executed a well-timed slide job on McDermand to take second. Three laps later, Timms repeated the maneuver on Drake to take the lead.

Holding the Lead

With the lead in hand, Timms opened up a 1.5-second advantage before a caution period with seven laps remaining brought the field back together. On the restart, Torgerson moved past McDermand for second, but Timms maintained his lead. “I just stuck to running the bottom, and I knew if anyone was going to pass me, it was going to be in Turn 3,” Timms said.

Despite Torgerson’s efforts, he couldn’t close the gap on Timms. “A little bit longer, I think we might’ve had something for him,” Torgerson said. Timms crossed the finish line first, earning the $4,000 prize and his first career victory in the Xtreme Outlaw-POWRi Challenge Series.

Final Standings

Timms’ win also tightened the points race, reducing his gap to leader McIntosh to just 17 points. McDermand, who finished third, also closed his gap to McIntosh, sitting 42 points behind in third place.
