(July 7, 2024) Haubstadt, IN – With two laps to go, Trent Young made a decisive move to secure his second DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals win in three days. Coming out of Turn 4 on Lap 24, Young went high around Turns 3 and 4, positioning his car between race-leader Lucas Lee and Austin Wayne Self. As Young split the two, Self slid up and made contact with Young, spinning on the front stretch. Before the yellow flag was thrown, Young had nosed ahead of Lee at the start/finish line to take the lead.
Green-White-Checkered Finish
On the ensuing green-white-checkered restart, Young got a great jump and held on to take the checkered flag. “I had the car to do it, I just hadn’t got the opportunity,” said Young of Crofton, KY. “I got stuck on the bottom every restart and just had to fall in line and the last one just worked out.”
Strategic Racing
For most of the race, Young stayed patient on the high side of the 1/4-mile oval, moving between fourth and fifth place. On a Lap 21 restart, he made his way to third, setting his sights on Self and Lee. An intense battle between Lee and Self allowed Young to close the gap and eventually make his move.
After taking the second spot on Lap 24, Young jumped the cushion in Turn 1, allowing Self to get ahead briefly. However, Young gained momentum down the backstretch and made the winning move coming out of Turn 4. “I just kept trying to bide my time,” Young said. “I knew I was pretty fast and they were getting really wild in the top three or four so I kind of just wanted to ride and see how it played out.”

The final week of the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals begins Tuesday, July 9, at Shadyhill Speedway in Medaryville, IN, racing alongside the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Late Models. Tickets will be on sale at the gate, and fans can also stream all the action on DIRTVision.
