Tyler Erb Returns for Eighth Summer Nationals Win at Tri-State Speedway

(July 7, 2024) Haubstadt, IN – Tyler Erb made a triumphant return to the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, leading all 30 laps of the Week 4 finale at Tri-State Speedway. This marked his eighth win of the season in the Summer Nationals series. After competing with the World of Outlaws at Deer Creek Speedway, Erb drove nine hours to Haubstadt, IN, for a dramatic return.

Race Highlights

Erb started from the fourth position but quickly moved to the front, taking the lead from polesitter Rusty Schlenk on the first lap. “At the drop of the green they spun the tires and I drove in between them,” Erb said. “Then Rusty bummed the cushion, and it was still kind of crumby and greasy so I turned and left pretty good.”

Throughout the race, Erb maintained his lead, even as he navigated lapped traffic. Tanner English, who started third, closed the gap in the final laps but couldn’t challenge Erb for the lead.

Key Moments

The race saw multiple battles for position. Schlenk, who started on the pole, led briefly before Erb took over. English applied pressure in the closing stages but finished half a second behind Erb. Rodney Melvin, starting 13th, rallied to finish third, while Dillon McCowan moved from 15th to fourth.

Comments from the Winner

Reflecting on his decision to race despite the long drive and lack of sleep, Erb said, “I’ve done this race before and I always thought this place was really cool and I’ve never had the opportunity to come back. If I would’ve sat there all day and watched this race I kind of would’ve been disappointed in myself because it’s just a little of mind over matter.”
