Tyler Erb Claims Ninth Summer Nationals Win at Butler Motor Speedway

(July 11, 2024) Quincy, MI – Tyler Erb continued his dominance in the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, securing his ninth win of the 2024 Hell Tour on Thursday night at Butler Motor Speedway. The 27-year-old from New Waverly, TX, showcased his aggressive driving style throughout the 30-lap main event.

Intense Battle for the Lead

Erb’s victory didn’t come easily. After losing the early lead to Chad Finley and Wil Herrington on Lap 3, he had to navigate through intense competition and lapped traffic. Finley initially took the lead with Herrington moving past Erb into second. However, Erb remained patient and capitalized on lapped traffic to regain his position.

Key Moves and Contact

The race saw significant contact, particularly between Erb and Herrington. As Herrington struggled to pass a lapped car, Erb seized the opportunity and moved into the lead on Lap 25. Herrington’s attempts to regain the lead led to further contact, but Erb held his ground.

Final Laps Drama

With just a few laps remaining, Herrington and Finley collided, bringing out a caution and forcing both to retire. Erb maintained his composure on the restart, securing his lead and finishing over a second ahead of Rusty Schlenk.

“It all worked out,” Erb said. “On the restart, I knew that I was either going to drive off the top of [Turns] 1 and 2 or get something and make something happen. Once I started driving harder into 1 and 2, I honestly got faster and was just able to make a move and take the lead and kind of do whatever I wanted from there.”

Impact on Championship Standings

Erb’s win extended his lead in the overall Summer Nationals championship standings to 29 points over Dillon McCowan, who finished third.
