(July 16, 2024) Attica, OH – David Gravel, from Watertown, CT, continues to shine in the 2024 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, securing his 10th win of the season at Attica Raceway Park. The victory at the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic, presented by dac® Pet Products, marks another highlight in his quest for his first championship.
Race Highlights
Gravel demonstrated patience and strategic driving, taking the lead on lap 17 of the 40-lap feature. He maintained his lead despite numerous restarts and held off strong challenges from Donny Schatz and Kyle Larson. Gravel’s win also provided redemption for his crew chief, Cody Jacobs, who previously lost the Brad Doty Classic in 2017 to Gravel.
Key Moments
The race began with Carson Macedo on the pole, quickly taking the early lead. However, several caution flags interrupted the race, allowing opportunities for position changes. Kyle Larson briefly took the lead, but Macedo reclaimed it, leading to a thrilling battle with Gravel.
Gravel finally overtook Macedo on lap 17 and steadily built his lead. Despite a late-race caution that bunched up the field, Gravel maintained his composure and crossed the finish line first, with Schatz and Larson completing the podium.
Driver Reflections
In Victory Lane, Gravel expressed his satisfaction with the win. “Happy to get one for Cody because I stole one from him when I was in the CJB (Motorsports) car, and he was in the 49 car with (Tim) Shaffer,” Gravel said. “It feels good to get number 10 on the year.”
Donny Schatz, who finished second after starting 11th, praised his team’s efforts despite a damaged nose wing. “It (nose wing) didn’t really affect it like everybody thinks,” Schatz said. “All in all a good effort.”
Kyle Larson, who finished third, reflected on a crucial mistake. “I wish I could have that last restart back,” Larson said. “My car felt pretty good, but Gravel was really good.”
