Ashton Winger Secures First Series Victory in Dominating Fashion at Buckshot Speedway

(April 5, 2024) Clanton, AL – In a stunning display of racing skill, Ashton Winger from Hampton, Ga., took charge on the seventh lap, overtaking pole-starter David Breazeale to lead the remainder of Friday’s Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals stop at Buckshot Speedway. Winger’s commanding performance earned him a well-deserved $7,553 prize and his inaugural series victory, crossing the finish line 5.102 seconds ahead of Breazeale.

Reflecting on his triumph, Winger shared, “Shoot, I felt like we were pretty good all night, but the (time-trial) groups were pretty even tonight, and (we) just barely got beat in qualifying there. It’s hard when you start sixth, ya know, 40 laps are sprints. Thanks to (series promoter) Ray (Cook) and everybody for giving us a place to race. I actually enjoy coming over here to Buckshot; it’s a different place that we haven’t been to a whole lot, so thanks for all the fans for coming out.”

Winger’s victory marked the fourth different winner in as many Spring Nationals events this season. Breazeale led the opening six laps before yielding to Winger and ultimately securing second place ahead of Spencer Hughes. Championship contender Pearson Lee Williams finished fourth, with Payton Freeman rounding out the top five.

The race witnessed several challenges and retirements, including Garrett Smith retiring with a flat tire on lap 22 and Ethan Dotson being the first to retire on lap four. Despite the obstacles, Winger maintained his dominance, securing a well-deserved victory in a fiercely competitive field.
