Mike Marlar Claims Victory in XR Super Series Spring Thaw at Volunteer Speedway

(April 6, 2024) Bulls Gap, TN – In a twist of fate, Mike Marlar from Winfield, Tenn., seized the top spot from Dale McDowell after the leader slowed on lap 14 due to a broken driveshaft. Starting fourth, Marlar capitalized on the opportunity and dominated the remainder of Saturday’s 60-lap XR Super Series-sanctioned Spring Thaw at Volunteer Speedway. His impressive performance held off a late challenge from Devin Moran, securing Marlar his first career series win and a hefty $30,000 paycheck.

Despite Moran’s determined effort, Marlar maintained his lead, crossing the finish line 0.216 of a second ahead for his third victory of the 2024 season. Jonathan Davenport settled for third place after a strong run, while Chris Ferguson and Daulton Wilson rounded out the top five.

The race saw several cautions, including McDowell’s broken driveshaft on lap 14, which brought out the second caution flag. Additional incidents involved Kaede Loude on lap 12 and a tangle between Brandon Overton and Jimmy Owens on the lap-14 restart.

Tyler Erb made an impressive climb through the field, starting 23rd and finishing sixth, showcasing his skill and determination.

Marlar’s winning ride, a Skyline Motorsports Longhorn Chassis, is supported by a range of sponsors including Bruening Rock Products, Truck Country, and VP Racing Fuels.

In the points chase after Volunteer Speedway, Marlar leads with 100 points, followed by Moran with 95 points and Davenport with 91 points.

Under a sky with few clouds and a cool 50°F temperature, 34 cars competed in the event, with Brandon Overton setting the pace as the fast qualifier.

The next series race is scheduled for April 7 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN, offering a $12,000 prize and promising another night of thrilling racing action.
