Gravel Leads Flag-to-Flag at I-55 Sprint Car Showdown

(April 12, 2024) Pevely, MO – David Gravel showcased his unstoppable momentum once again on Friday night, delivering a flawless performance at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55. Despite facing challenges from lapped traffic, cautions, and fierce competition, Gravel emerged victorious in the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Showdown at the renowned Pevely, MO bullring.

Starting from the front row, Gravel demonstrated his prowess behind the wheel, leading the pack for a commanding 40 laps. Navigating through congested traffic with precision, the Watertown, CT native piloted the Big Game Motorsports machine to claim his third win of the 2024 season.

Despite a strong challenge from Michael “Buddy” Kofoid, Gravel maintained his composure to secure the victory. Kofoid, displaying remarkable consistency in his rookie season, settled for the runner-up position after fending off late pressure from Carson Macedo.

Macedo, representing the Jason Johnson Racing team, showcased his resilience with a podium finish, continuing his streak of top-10 performances since early February. Utilizing strategic restarts, the Lemoore, CA native climbed from the fifth starting position to briefly challenge for the lead before settling for third.

Bill Balog and Giovanni Scelzi completed the top five, rounding out a competitive field of contenders. Notably, Noah Gass impressed with a remarkable drive from 24th to 12th, earning him the KSE Racing Hard Charger award in his first Series start of the season.

Giovanni Scelzi’s impressive performance earned him the Simpson Quick Time accolade, marking his 13th career achievement in this category. Additionally, heats were claimed by Scelzi, Macedo, and Gravel, with Donny Schatz securing victory in the Milton Hershey School Heat Two.

As the weekend progresses, fans can anticipate more exhilarating action as the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars return to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 on Saturday, April 13.
