(April 19, 2024) Eastaboga, AL – Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the 2023 Daytona 500 Champion hailing from Olive Branch, MS, made an impressive return to his roots by clinching victory in the 25-lap Feature Race on the opening night of the Alabama Gang Classic for the United Sprint Car Series Presented By K&N Filters at Talladega Short Track. Stenhouse’s win marked a triumphant start to his Sprint Car season, showcasing the skills he honed during his early years with USCS before transitioning to NASCAR.
In a thrilling display of racing prowess, Stenhouse navigated the outside groove to challenge early race leader Hayden Martin, also from Olive Branch, MS. With just ten laps remaining, Stenhouse executed a daring maneuver in turn one, sliding past Martin and seizing control of the race. Despite a fierce battle for the lead, Stenhouse maintained his position and crossed the finish line in first place.
Martin demonstrated resilience and skill, holding on to secure the second spot, while National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Inductee Sammy Swindell of Germantown, TN, claimed third place. Dale Howard of Byhalia, MS, and another Hall of Fame Inductee, Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN, rounded out the top five, further highlighting the depth of talent in the field.
As the United Sprint Car Series Presented By K&N Filters returns to Talladega Short Track for night two of the Alabama Gang Classic on Saturday, April 20, anticipation builds for another exhilarating round of competition.
