(March 30, 2024) Tazewell, TN – Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA had a night to remember at Tazewell Speedway’s Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial. After a tough battle with Brandon Overton the previous night, McDowell took charge from pole position and dominated all 75 laps, securing a hefty $21,000 paycheck. It was McDowell’s first win of the season in the Schaeffer’s Oil Nationals series and marked his 18th career victory, solidifying his position as one of the all-time greats in the tour’s history.
McDowell credited his brother Shane, who manages his car, for making the right adjustments that propelled him to victory. Reflecting on the race, McDowell expressed his love for Tazewell Speedway despite its demanding nature, especially for someone nearing 58 years old. He even joked about seeing another veteran racer, Scott Bloomquist, finishing in the top five.
The race wasn’t short on drama, with McDowell fending off Overton’s challenge throughout the race to claim the win. Cory Hedgecock and Donald McIntosh also put up strong performances, finishing third and fourth respectively.
Despite a brief caution period, the feature race lasted just 19 minutes, with McDowell leading the way to the checkered flag.
McDowell’s winning setup included a Clements Chevrolet engine and support from sponsors like E-Z-Go and Cometic Gaskets. With this victory, McDowell climbed up to sixth in the series points standings, while Overton maintained his lead.
Next up on the series calendar is the race at Buckshot Speedway in Clanton, AL, with a $7,553 prize up for grabs.
