Spencer Hughes Secures Win at Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series at Magnolia Motor Speedway

(April 27, 2024) Columbus, MS – Spencer Hughes of Meridian, Mississippi, showcased his racing prowess with a commanding victory at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Saturday’s $3,000 Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series event. Leading from start to finish, Hughes secured his third win of the season and his second consecutive MSCCS triumph, marking the fourth of his career.

Reflecting on his victory, Hughes expressed his fondness for Magnolia Motor Speedway, a track where he secured his first significant Super Late Model win back in 2017 with the Southern All-Stars. He credited his team at JCM Motorsports for providing him with a competitive car and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to race.

Hughes’s victory not only added to his impressive season but also increased his total race winnings to over $11,000. Chad Thrash, starting from the tenth position, finished second, staying within striking distance of Hughes throughout the race. Oakley Johns rounded out the podium, starting from the seventh position.

Other notable performances included Hunter Lewis, who gained seven positions to finish fourth, and Dillon Tidmore, who also advanced seven spots to secure ninth place.

The main event, lasting 22 minutes, saw 10 competitors completing the distance, with 16 cars running at the checkered flag.

Dean Carpenter made a remarkable climb from the 18th starting position to finish eighth.

Hughes’s JCM Motorsports Rocket Chassis, powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine, boasts sponsorship from various partners including Torco Advanced Lubricants, Yellow Hammer Design & Construction, and VP Race Fuels.

In the points standings before the Magnolia event, Neil Baggett led the pack with Brian Rickman closely behind.

With favorable weather conditions and a strong car count of 29 participants, Hughes’s dominance was evident from qualifying, where he set the fastest time.

The next race in the series is scheduled for June 7 at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi, with a $3,000 prize awaiting the winner.
