Tyler Erb Scores Redemption, Wins Fifth Summer Nationals at Brownstown Bullring

(June 21, 2024) Brownstown, IL – Just a day after a disappointing finish at the Hell Tour, Tyler Erb bounced back with a victory at the Brownstown Bullring, securing his fifth DIRTcar Summer Nationals Late Model race win of the 2024 season.

Bouncing Back from Adversity

Erb’s win on Friday night came after a challenging race on Thursday, where an incident with Jason Feger led to a 15th-place finish despite leading the first 26 laps. Erb, managed to shake off the setback with a unique coping strategy.

“You listen to Suicideboys as loud as you can possibly listen to it in the rig,” Erb shared, referring to the popular Louisiana hip-hop duo. “And then when that runs out, you listen to Slipknot, and when that runs out, you listen to Limp Bizkit. Then at 5:30 in the morning, you take six Melatonins and go to sleep.”

A Redemption Win

Starting from the sixth position, Erb quickly moved up the ranks, demonstrating his skill on the high side of the 1/4-mile oval. By Lap 6, he had climbed to third place. His decisive moment came on Lap 11, when he passed Daryn Klein to take second place. With his sights set on the leader, Tanner English, Erb closed the gap lap by lap.

On Lap 17, Erb made his move, diving to the bottom in Turn 3 and sliding up in front of English in Turn 4 to take the lead.

“I just kind of had it in my mind I was going to run the top most of the race,” Erb said. “I passed Klein in the middle following him in the cushion then passed [English] in the middle. Was just able to get a good run off of [English] on Turn 2 and saw an opportunity to slide him.”

Dominating the Final Laps

After taking the lead, Erb controlled the race, maintaining a strong pace and finishing over three seconds ahead of second-place finisher Ryan Unzicker, who came from 11th to claim the Hard Charger honors. Erb’s victory at Brownstown ranks high among his wins this season.

“Fairbury was number one, this is definitely number two,” Erb said. “Winning never gets old.”
