Tyler Nicely Clinches First DIRTcar Summit Modified Nationals Victory at Brownstown Bullring

(June 21, 2024) Brownstown, IL – Tyler Nicely finally claimed his first DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals Feature win of the season on Friday night at Brownstown Bullring. After finishing as the runner-up in the first two races of Week 2, Nicely’s breakthrough victory was a testament to his determination and skill.

A Strategic Season

The 2023 Summit Modified champion, who skipped Week 1 of the Hell Tour, decided to participate in Week 2 as part of a more flexible schedule.

“This year I decided I really didn’t want to chase any points, just go race when I want to and have fun,” said Nicely from Owensboro, KY. “My crew guy Austin has been itching to run a full week, so we picked this one.”

The Race Unfolds

Trevor Neville led the field at the start, aiming for back-to-back wins following his triumph at Spoon River Speedway on Thursday. Neville quickly built a sizeable lead until a caution on Lap 16 bunched up the field.

On the restart, Neville maintained his lead for two more laps, but Nicely began to make his move on the high side. With a powerful run out of Turn 2 on Lap 18, Nicely surged past Neville down the backstretch and secured the lead through Turns 3 and 4. From there, Nicely led the remaining laps unchallenged.

A Calculated Move

“When we got that caution, we were both running at the same speed around the bottom,” Nicely said. “I had already decided to go to the top on the restart to get some momentum. My stick guy told me the third-place driver was gaining time up there, so I knew there was grip. Trevor left a lane open, and I was able to pass him.”

Looking Ahead

The Summit Modifieds will continue their action-packed season with a visit to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 on Saturday, June 22, alongside the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Late Models. Tickets will be available at the gate, and fans can also watch live on DIRTVision.
