McIntosh Returns to Victory Lane in Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series Inside the Southern IL Center

(March 16, 2024) DuQuoin, IL – Cannon McIntosh ended his 23-race winless streak with a triumph in the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota at the Southern Illinois Center. The 21-year-old from Bixby, OK, claimed the $5,000 prize after inheriting the lead in the final laps due to an incident involving the top two cars. This victory marks his sixth career Series Feature win and his first since returning to Keith Kunz Motorsports (KKM).

A Much-Awaited Victory

Reflecting on the win, McIntosh expressed relief and gratitude. “It feels amazing,” he said. “It feels like a long time since I’ve won. It’s been a journey, and I’ve grown as a driver through the losses.”

The Race Unfolds

The race was initially dominated by Joe B. Miller and Thomas Meseraull, who led the first 35 laps. Miller, starting from the pole, managed to fend off Meseraull despite intense pressure. However, the dynamic changed on lap 36 when a multi-car incident took Miller and Meseraull out of contention.

Taking the Lead

The incident allowed McIntosh, who was running third, to take the lead. “Once I could hear them say I was the leader, I knew there wasn’t more than five laps to go, and I just had to execute,” McIntosh said. He held off challenges from Ryan Timms, who had charged up from 12th place, to secure the win.

Final Laps

Timms, running in second after the restart, tried various strategies to overtake McIntosh but was unable to make a pass. “I really thought I was gonna get him,” Timms said. “But he hit his marks perfectly.”

Zach Daum finished third for the second night in a row, while Jade Avedisian and Trey Marcham rounded out the top five.
