Ashton Torgerson Scores Second Consecutive Xtreme Outlaw Midget Win at Humboldt

(May 10, 2024) Humboldt, KS – Ashton Torgerson claimed victory at Humboldt Speedway, where he made his national Midget series debut with the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota just a year ago. This time, he emerged victorious, marking his second win of the 2024 season.

Redemption in Victory Lane

Reflecting on his performance, Torgerson, 17, from Glendale, AZ, acknowledged the challenges from his previous appearance. “Last year I was here leading laps and lost it [late in the race],” Torgerson said. “Tonight, we had a little bit of red [flags] later on in the race, and then we had the late caution. Both of those were kinda frustrating, but I felt so good that I knew I’d be good if I just hit my marks.”

Torgerson’s Journey

Starting from third, Torgerson quickly moved into contention. After getting past Ryan Timms for second on lap 11, he capitalized on a restart mistake by leader Kale Drake to take the lead. “On the restart, he went to the top and I was able to roll right by him,” Torgerson said. He maintained his lead through multiple restarts and a green-white-checkered finish.

Maintaining the Lead

Torgerson’s victory was secured by staying focused and hitting his marks. “If I miss the bottom, I probably would have got passed,” he noted. Despite several challenges, he held on to take the win.

Final Lap Drama

Gavin Miller moved into second place after Drake spun and stalled on the final lap. Miller attempted a dive into Turn 1 on the last restart but couldn’t surpass Torgerson. “Going into the corner, I didn’t drive it in hard enough on the bottom,” Miller said. “He drove it in too hard, so we kinda both made opposite mistakes.”

Podium Finishers

Cannon McIntosh, the Xtreme Outlaw Series points leader, finished third, expanding his lead to 37 points over Timms. Chase McDermand and Zach Daum rounded out the top five.

Looking Ahead

The Xtreme Outlaw Midgets will return to action on Saturday, May 11, at 81 Speedway in Park City, KS. Tickets will be available at the gate, and the event will be streamed live on DIRTVision.
