(May 21, 2024) Salisbury, NC – Karter Sarff turned his season around with a commanding win at Millbridge Speedway during the opening round of the DIAEDGE Double Down Showdown. This victory marks his second Feature win of the year and his first at the North Carolina oval.
Overcoming a Slump
Sarff, 21, from Mason City, IL, had faced disappointing results since his first win of the season in early April. However, he dominated Tuesday night’s race, leading from start to finish. “We were in a slump the last couple races, just couldn’t get anything out of the car,” Sarff said. “Paul May (crew chief) had her dialed all night long.”
Strong Start and Lead
Starting from pole position, Sarff quickly took the lead and maintained a significant advantage, even navigating through lapped traffic with ease. “I was happy when I got to lapped traffic because I usually get through lapped traffic pretty good,” Sarff said. “I figured I might have been out a little ways, but I didn’t know if they were right on me or not, so I just kept hammering on it.”
Battles Behind
While Sarff led the pack, Zach Daum and Cannon McIntosh fought for the third spot. Daum eventually secured the position, showcasing a clean and competitive race. “Me and Cannon have come back to an understanding; we can race with each other again,” Daum said.
Mid-Race Action
The race saw its first caution on Lap 22, with Sarff leading ahead of Ryan Timms, Daum, and McIntosh. Following a series of restarts and another caution involving Timms, McIntosh moved into third place. Despite his efforts, McIntosh couldn’t advance further, finishing third and extending his points lead.
Final Stages
Daum challenged Sarff on the final restart but couldn’t make the pass, settling for second. “Hopefully, we can start this trend,” Daum said, aiming for more wins in the season. Gavin Miller and Briggs Danner completed the top five.
Looking Ahead
The Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series returns to action Wednesday, May 22, for the finale of the Double Down Showdown at Millbridge Speedway. Tickets are available at the gate, and the event will be streamed live on DIRTVision.
