(July 6, 2024) Clarksville, TN – David Breazeale, at the age of 48, achieved a career milestone by winning his first DIRTcar Summer Nationals race at Clarksville Speedway. The driver from Four Corners, MS, led all 40 laps of the Feature race, persevering through multiple cautions and maintaining his lead on each restart. This victory marks one of the biggest accomplishments in Breazeale’s racing career.
Overcoming Challenges
Breazeale’s journey to victory wasn’t without its hurdles. Despite facing numerous restarts, he managed to hold off a competitive field, including runner-up Jadon Frame. “It means the world,” Breazeale said. “It’s been right at five years since I’ve won any kind of Late Model race and to come out here on the DIRTcar Summer Nationals who I don’t run with a bunch and a place I’ve never been.”
Breazeale’s win is particularly impressive given his part-time racing schedule, which he balances with his full-time commitment to his logging company. “It’s mentally tough because it requires my presence there at the logging to make it profitable enough that we can afford to do this,” he explained.
Race Highlights
After winning his Heat Race, Breazeale drew the pole position for the Feature, with Rodney Melvin starting beside him. From the start, Breazeale took the lead and set the pace around the 1/4-mile oval. The race saw multiple caution flags, including one on Lap 6 and four more before the midway point, but Breazeale remained strong on each restart.
A final caution on Lap 34 posed another challenge, but Breazeale once again secured the advantage, finishing over one second ahead of Jadon Frame. “It’s tough,” Breazeale said about the numerous restarts. “Knowing [Tanner English] is back there and [Dillon McCowan]. They’ve been at it every day so they obviously have way more laps, and I kept thinking somebody would try me on the outside because I felt like my pace was getting slower and slower.”
Looking Ahead
The DIRTcar Summer Nationals Late Models will crown a Week 4 champion at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN on Sunday, July 7. Tickets will be available at the gate, and fans can watch all the action live on DIRTVision.
